LinuxΒΆ

SIMION is a native Windows program, but it does run well under Linux via Wine on Intel x86-compatible processors (for full details see Issue I469 “Formal support for Intel-compatible Linux running Windows version of SIMION” and SIMION under Linux via Wine). Wine allows SIMION runs to at native speeds on Intel x86 compatible processors (it is not a CPU emulator). SIMION 8.0 has been officially tested successfully by SIS under the latest Linux/Wine, all functions should work well, and this combination is supported (in fact, a few changes were made to SIMION 8.0 for smoother Wine compatibility Issue I276). There are a number of reports that SIMION 7 also runs well under Linux/Wine.

If your CPU is not Intel x86 compatible (e.g. typical Apple, Sun, etc., systems), then you’ll likely have much less luck since an emulator would be required, which is undesirable on a heavy number crunching application like SIMION, and native builds of SIMION for these platforms are not available.

There is a low-price commercial version of Wine called CrossOver Linux. This has not been officially tested like Wine, but it probably will work well too.
