SL System: VIM

The SIMION SL™ Toolkit (version 1.2.1.0 - 2004-11-09)

The SL Toolkit includes the VIM text editor. You may wish to use this for editing SIMION related text files (e.g. SL, PRG, GEM, etc.). The SL Editor plugins are installed by default.

Details

VIM is installed in the "system" subdirectory. There are two VIM executables. The "easy" version for newbies is located at "system/bin/evim.exe". The "normal" (modal) version is located at "system/bin/gvim.exe". If you choose to use the normal version and you are new to VIM, please read a introductory tutorial on VIM; otherwise, you will be confused.

If you want to learn more about VIM, try these resources:

  • VIM.org - The main VIM web site
  • SL Editor - SL Editor (includes plugins for VIM)

Some say that Emacs is a better text editor than VIM. Both are very capable, and there arguments for both. VIM was included in the SL Toolkit because of its very liberal license and the availablity of its "easy" mode, which requires no training to use.
